i need a 5/8" punch and can't find one anywhere. not even ebay or harbor freight. anyone know where to buy one?

Just track down a mac, snap on or matco tool truck. There's a good chance they will have one on the truck. I've made that hole in the oil pan before without that large punch but you have to do it with great care. First make a small hole in the right spot with a smaller diameter punch which you can get at OSH. Than start with small sockets and gradually increase the diameter of the sockets until you can thread the tap into it. In using deep sockets you will still achieve the rolling effect that you'll need to make the right amount of threads.
