I dont think so, but every time I did an open track day with my old 4v `97 fobra I would blow out the gasket on the passenger side between the mid pipe and the passenger exhaust manifold.
It was pretty annoying to have to factor in dropping the mid pipe and replacing a $5 copper gasket every time I went and did a track day.
It didn't blow that gasket out when I ran with an o/r mid pipe without cats.
it was a 6 cat h-pipe, and always smogged clean with practically 0 hc #'s.

yes it will damage your car and possibly catch your car on fire, get a off road pipe period.

There are plenty of completely stock and some not so stock cars at the track running through 'cats with no issues.
Provided your car is in good mechanical condition, I see no reason to feel that deleting the 'cats is some kind of safety precaution.
Exhaust restriction will increase exhaust temperature, so I can see the logic in deleting the 'cats to reduce heat throughout the car. But I do not see an off-road pipe as a prerequisite for a track day.

I think the biggest risk for cars with converters is starting a fire if you go off track into the weeds.
A 2.5LB extinguisher would help prevent a small problem from turning into a really big problem.

you guys go catch on fire then. seen plenty of cars with glowing comets under there cars, that half have! caught fire! when your wide open not all exhaust is burnt , then further heating your cats up causing them to glow, glow is super hott! then the restriction other than that is over heating an over working your motor. it takes horse power away simply as well. then its burning the cats abnormally wearing them out, which cost bank. so i thought catching on fire was enough reason, cats are for smog not racing. get a swapped out cat system, and save your self some problems.

Seen it plenty time as well. Converters are a big no-no in road course work. They are great for the air, but there is nothing worse than catching fire (and embarrassing) and having to stop the whole session on a track day because you elected to keep them on (trust me I know).
Off-road pipe is like a 20 minute easy swap..do it for safety (and weight).
