It won't run. Period. New PIP 3x, new dizzy, new computer, new chip, new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, tune, you fucking NAME IT.

I've been out in the garage for 2 months, everyday, back and forth, back and forth, NOTHING WORKS. NO MATTER WHERE I PUT THE GODDAMN DIZZY, IT WILL NOT IDLE OR RUN. It pops, backfires, etc.

Ive tried 6 or 7 diff tunes, diff computers, chips, etc.. this is a fucking joke.

I've had it, and i'm tired of it.

FWIW.. it ran great. Had it idling, revved, etc.. took it up street in a little rain.. came home.. air filter got wet.. let it dry overnight, and ever since I can't get the car to run proper.

I've swapped everything, took it all apart, etc.. nothing I can find wrong.. just plain runs like hell. Cleaned MAF with spray, no change.

Does the engine run better with the MAF unplugged? Does the engine run better with the IAC unplugged?

I think the MAF is fucked bro.

Might have gotten water on the heating element.

Aside from that moving all the other stuff to try and correct the issue may have introduced another issue into play.

Check the coil? Or EGR?

Yes. Dirty water splashed on heated MAF elements can't be good.

It has to be something simple. Cracked spark plug. Bad wire. Vacuum or gasket leak. Bad wiring. Damaged injector. Damaged sensor. Don't keep throwing parts at it. Think and trouble shoot logically.

Everything is new. I've been trying to get this running for 2 months, now.

MONTHS.

There is no vac leak.. there is no gasket leak.. the car ran GREAT.. idled rock steady.. then I took it to the store a mile up the road in the rain.. got MAF wet/etc.. and ever since, it WILL NOT RUN RIGHT.

NO MATTER WHAT.. believe me, i'd love it to be something stupid/simple.. but at this point i'm lost

Computer error codes? Compression test? Smoke test for leaks? Get back to the basics.

Does it idle with your air idle controller unplugged? Unplug the IAC and adjust the blade screw to the best idle you can get. Certain mo computer codes with the engine running test?

Soon as I unplug it, it dies.

Tighten your idle screw more until it doesn't.

What's your fuel pressure? Is your coil okay? I've heard of a computer test to check dead cylinders. It runs engine at cruise RPM and shuts off an injector one at a time to see if the RPMs drop. If it shuts of an injector and the RPMs don't drop, that cylinder isn't working. Run all these tests. Hang in there man, the fix is close.

FP is right on.. 32/34 ish, spikes to 40 ish vac off.. I have a AFPR mounted to 1/2" CHP fuel rails.. the fpr sits on the booster for the brakes lol. Only place I could fit it.. as you can see in the video.. just kinda worked out.

I had an MSD coil on it, and swapped to an accel at the suggestion of a post I found on the corral, and WOW, did the accel put out like 20% more spark it seemed.. it was night and day.. like holy shit, and I already have a 6al in it..

We went through hell adjusting the rockers/valves because of the cam, but finally got it I do believe. I found a valve stem with a groove in it, took it to machine shop, had .010" shaved.. thousandths if I did that wrong, lol.. off bottom.. to flatten it back out. I was told being hydraulic it would adjust and be fine once we did our adjustments again, and it seemed to quiet down once the new lifters pumped up with oil.

The balancer has absolutely no marks on it, we had to set tdc, mark with chalk, then we are sorta guessing on 10*... best guess? 1/4"? 1/2"? I've seen anywhere from one to the other depending on the balancer and markings....

I'm going by ear, but this is killing me.. it obviously ran rock solid there.. so wtf are we missing, now? I have 3 sets of plugs here, a plug cleaner (abrasive on a compressor/air tool).. ngk's, I believe a tr6, then autolite 3923 (colder) and 3924 (step warmer).. I have 2 diff dizzys.. the MSD pro billet is a pos. I put a stocker in with a new pip.. pip went bad.. got lifetime warranty one.. already swapped it 3x...

Could the msd be smoking the pip??

I have new cap/rotor, wires on way. New ECT. It's throwing zero codes at me.

Could too much advance.. timing, simply cause all this??

Driving me NUTS

We checked compression and had 150 in all and 145 ish on last one. Well within specs i'd say. We went round and round on adjusting the rockers/valves, and finally got it, i'd say. I used this method.. because of the larger cam and heads/etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4ZNY5a8gD0&t=298s

The only thing I would say I did a tiny bit diff, is that I had to rotate those set screws out a bit more, or it wouldn't let me adjust all the way proper. Outside of that, it ran GREAT, as you can see/hear.

Now, seems like something simple is beating me [Embarrassed]

Eliminate the 6AL and see what happens.
Do you have a good ground strap from engine to chassis ?

How bad do you want the car to run? Who’s going to tune the car for you, how much is that going to cost you? I have a solution for you to fix the car yourself completely but you have to be up to the task and my suggestion will force you to troubleshoot and find the actual issue and resolve it, I’ve been down this road before, PM me for the info if you want to know more.

Lots of assumptions in this post.

Similar bullshit was happening to me...then i decided to just swap the entire hci motor with a completely stock motor. Problem still existed (excessive fuel being sprayed in number 8 cylinder)..i changed the ECM, it went away. That was a pain in the ass. Car was sitting for about a year with that problem til i solved it
