So, I always see the commercials but I never called and found out for myself but I just saved a bunch of cash switching to Geico.
I had USAA before, and Geico is literally half the price of my policy for the same coverage and everything.
I'm pretty stoked, and it makes my 2.9L upgrade make alot more sense [patriot]

Just wanted to inform you guys if there was anybody like me that didnt bother calling to check the rates, it really is no shit cheaper. I'm pretty stoked about the switch/savings [burnout]

geico is dirt cheap. and if price is the only thing you are looking at you should also look at 21st century.

just be aware..
1)that if you have a claim geico will do everything in their power to pay you the least amount of money possible.
2)Their call center employees are the McDonald level employees if the insurance industry. (they make the least) this matters because as soon as someone gets good there they move on. You will never talk to the same person twice.

So in other words if you are only looking for paper to show a cop when you are pulled over then it is perfect. If you want real insurance you should look elsewhere.

That is just my two cents being in the industry for over 9 years. [patriot]

I will admit that USAA has great customer service, and overall was a good experience dealing with claims etc.
But, IMO I don't deal with insurance companies enough to justify paying double what I could pay.

I see your board name as "Insurance Guy" so I'm assuming you work for a competitor, and I can understand GEICO is stiff competition when it comes to providing premiums.

Who do you work for and what DIRECT and PERSONAL experience do you have with GEICO?

Can they be that bad being that they are a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway? A++ rating from A.M. Best? Third largest insurance carrier in the nation with over 12 million policyholders and cresting on being the second largest by the end of the year? Sure, a call center environment is different than a local office (such as SF or Farmers or brokers) who can live off getting a book of business and sitting on it, but GEICO = lower overhead to pass the savings to the client.

If you think the claims service is so bad, then why does GEICO get so many people switching over when they are hit by a GEICO insured and they have such a great experience?

Hmm...very sound statements from your end it sounds, eh?

There are several companies which are better. Esurance is much better and they are backed by allstate. I personally am not affiliated with them but for auto only they are very good.

Its best to combine your auto with your home insurance. and depending on were you live diffrent companies are better for diffrent locations.

I personally work in a broker office. our focus is higher end clients with more of a focus on the property side. my personal experience with geico is helping my new clients who were insured with them.

most people who do not use their insurance or have a small fender bender praise them simply based on price.

i have a bunch of crazy stories but one example that comes to mind is one in which my new client got hit by a garbage truck. it was clearly the garbage trucks fault. even the police at the scene said so. Because of this geico said they would not pay anything to their own client and advised their insured (my new client to use they other parties insurance). The other party ended up disputing that it was their drivers fault. basically my client was left hung out to dry and had to hire a lawyer all on their own and got no help from their insurance company geico.

This is something my company would have helped with. we have an independent claims adjuster who does not work for an insurance company but for us who would have gone to bad for our client.

geico actually went insolvent in the early 90ies and sold a large majority of their clients to other insurance companies. they are the only big insurance companies to ever go insolvent.

by they way geico does not offer their own property insurance. they use travelers insurance (one of the companies i use) but geico charges extra fees to use this company. They also do not offer a home/auto discount as most companies do.

so if you own a home the cost of insurance with geico is much higher than my markets.

honestly only get good insurance if you can afford it. just knowing what the possible pitfalls can be is powerful knowledge.
