can anyone give me a rundown on removing the speedo gear assembly? I'm trying to pinpoint a leak and it looks like it might be the speedo gear.

I want to remove it from the housing/case to see if a seal went bad or something. thnx

figured it out somewhat...also found out the outter o-ring seal for the speedo housing is 0$.65 but shipping is $8.65. cant find it anywhere, except for a shop online called the gearbox. oh well, they got me this time.

Get a cheap pair of digital calipers to measure the inner and outer diameter of the O ring. You can buy O rings of any size cheap online. The Tremec housing strips easy. Use a torque wrench when tightening the bolts back up.

I get what you're saying. Hardware stores can carry a good O ring selection. Those cheap digital calipers with the yellow and red buttons quickly pay for themselves. Just don't strip any tapped threads. Tremec uses the softest aluminum.

Shit man, that clip that keeps the speedo cable in the VSS housing is a real bitch trying to pop back in! I already bent the shit out of one. I read online that you dont really take it all the way out...just pull it out a bit then pull the speedo cable out...is that true? Because i dont see how that would work with that flange on the speedo cable end.
