I swapped out my rack and piñon on my 85 mustang for a new one and when the rack was out I ended up turning the steering wheel. Now that everything is back and I have a alignment when the car is parked and I turn the wheel only the wheel will turn and not the steering shaft...what broke ?

Did you tighten down the bolt where the splines are?

Was the 12 point bolt you tightened down hitting the flat spot on the splined input shaft of the rack?

Yeah the 12 point bolt is fully secured, the bolt will only screw in one way. My question is what could of broke in the steering column because I'm pretty sure the rack is on the right way . I may just end up swapping out the whole steering column.
