89 hatch lx 5.0 5 speed. 302 head cam intake o/r x pipe 3 chamber flows 24lbs injectors timing is set properly.
Both sides all four headers glow red.

Huge vacuum leak causing a lean condition.
If your for sure timing is set as it should and at btdc and NOT atdc.

Tooth off has nothing to do with this.
A car can start with a distributor 180 pointing the other way as long as the firing order is set up correctly on the cap to match the 180 off.

The timing is retarded fuel is burning in the exhaust tried to advance timing and hope its better maybe a tune will be nice, Good luck

On this car the dizzy runs the injectors. If it is stabbed wrong and the wires are on correct. The injectors will be firing at the wrong time.
How the dizzy is stabbed is important.

Fostang I hope your not reading that article as the holy grail. it is incorrect. In the distributor there is a hall effect pick up, out of the 8 registerd tabs only one is thin, that is to restart the firing order for the fuel injectors firing order to be correct with the spark firing order. if the distributor is not in the exact spot or the notches back to factory as even the article mentions, it will NOT be correct, the fuel injectors will not fire in coordination with the firing order. the injector well fire at a closed valve causing low rpm studders. I fix these issues at least once a week, have done hundreds with very noticeable and sometime huge differences. I only restab the dis back to the factory spot when i notice its off an then retime, with lil to big positive differences. It does matter. car will still run, well drive fine to a not well rounded person, but is def not right.

The stock sefi system is not as complicated to rotor phase as say a FAST system .
Injector timing is calculated based off of Load and RPM tables. So just because the #1 vane on the stator passes by the pickup, doesnt mean thats the timing event for the injector. Its just the start of the number sequence. Further more, the #1 vane, is the same for Spark and Injectors, so its not going to get out of sync.

i respect you very much so please just remember that, but there is a skinny vein in there, me an my dyno guy read this is some ford literature both over the years an both agree, not to mention, at least a hundred times i've just reclocked the distributor and got amazing results on customer cars, major lower end clear up issues,an i check the timing before, pulled out the distributor and just reclocked it, an reinstalled, rechecked and adjusted timing back to where it was, again with always a plus advantage, 99 percent of the time when these cars come in and i see it out of its reg position i already know what the issue are, low end stutter and not clean crisp take off. an this is all i do. so if it didn't matter nothing would change, now im not arguing that pick up controls spark, but the spark plug wire could be repositioned, the fuel injector timing can not. but exactly like a cam pick up sensor or crank sensor being off a tooth like on a timing belt etc, is exactly like not having the dizzy off its pre set course, if the factory chisel mark to block and dizzy housing are not very close to perfect from being off a tooth, and me not fixing this at least 100 times i would have more of a open mind, but there is no other changes other than what i've stated to get such results. so in return i'm curious what backs your statement that i'm wrong, I did read this out of a ford manual book as well, as again so did my dyno guy who didn't believe me at first either. but the computer finding tdc on anything other than that skinny vien in teh dizzy is incorrect, that is soley what it is there for.

timing is off. this is a long shot but have you checked the balancer to see if it spun on the rubber?
