On my last 4 mustangs I always went with the Offroad Xpipe, I am thinking about going to a Catted X on my 98 cobra. Does it sound and also preform much better then the stock pipe? Thanks

Also will it pass smog with the high flow cats? Visually as well as sniffer?

not sure about that one. visually, yea. my buddy had one on his 5.0 and it passed, some people say you gotta get them hotter to help pass. id just get it smogged with the stock setup first, then slap the aftermarket x on.

also, most aftermarket cat setups arent legal in CA, id check that out too.

Anything less than the "stock quantity" of cats is "not" smog legal. Meaning it will "not pass" the visual portion of the smog test. They have an exhaust diagram application book they use and or compare during the text. Shows exact layout of the entire system. However there are many smog places that don't follow the entire inspection processes. So; yes some of the hi-flow cats will pass the sniffer in the tail pipe. Cannot say all of these cats will pass the sniffer cause i have had many customers that buy and install these "without" ever hooking up the air injection pipes properly and/or leave the smog pump disconnected. This just destroys the catalytic material inside the cats. [patriot]

The magnaflow 4 catted x-pipe is 50 state legal. It flows really good, but it still quiets down the exhaust a lot which i dont like.

In terms of performance it really depends on what is done to your car. My car, with the stock cat pipe ran 12.50 @ 108. With the off road pipe it went 12.43 @ 109. On the dyno it made 10 hp and 14 ft.lbs of torque more with the off road H pipe. A 3% increase in power is hardly worth the effort. The catted X pipe which is on my car now ran 12.40 @ 109 consistently and made identical power numbers to the off road H. It is worth noting the cats had to run through some heat cycles before they started to post those numbers. (Roughly a month of driving.) before that period it layed down numbers between the off road pipe and the stock pipe.

catted x pipes unless they have the same amount of cats that a factory mid pipe has will fail visual, unless the tech is a dumbass, or is cool.
i had a catted x on my 95gt and it passed the sniffer every time, but it failed this last time cause of the visual.
