I have a 91 lx and im installing an e303 with a double roller timing chain, when installing the timing chain do u have to have cylinder one at tdc or does the timing chain just have to go on any cylinder??? How can I find out if my engine is on cylinder one at tdc with my heads on but everything else is of with no compression??

Before you take everything apart, take the #1 spark plug out and rotate the engine over by hand with your finger over the spark plug hole. When you feel air pushing out, you're on the compression stroke and rotate the engine until the mark on the balancer hits 0°. You should be at TDC. Then pull everything apart and replace the cam and chain. The gears only go on one way and just make sure everything gets lined up dot to dot.

So do you already have the cam and timing chain removed?

The easiest way is to turn the motor til the #1 intake valve closes, then put the crank timing gear on and have then line the dot up @ 12 oclock then install the cam gear

be sure to introduce your valvles to your pistons before they bump into eachother sometime down the road.

LOL... If you install the cam wrong, your pistons will meet the valves in a bad way.

If the heads are on and the cam is removed and all the rocker arms are off, the piston will still make compression with the valves closed. Put the cam gear on the crank and rotate the engine just like I said in the first post. You'll feel the air come out of the #1 spark plug hole. Rotate it until the cam gear(should have a 0 on the cam gear) is pointing straight up towards the intake manifold. That should be TDC on the #1 piston.

Also, you might want to consider investing in a repair manual. Stuff like this is all in the book.
