My 1988 5.0 FAILED Smog today [Frown] . I ran the codes, it shot code 034 Idle Air Control - (EVP/PFE high) what does that mean????

Also it shot code 044 (vent solenoid valve short). Again ????????

Any help understanding this would be great, thanks guys.

What's up Matt?? Why did the car fail? Was it 'cause the check engine light was on or did it also fail emissions?

Are you sure you are looking those codes up correctly? In my book a 34 is "Insufficient EGR flow/ Excessive exhaust back pressure; or EVP voltage above closed limit / PFE sensor high or out or range"

044 says "Secondary Air Injection System Inoperative"

If this is true then I would start by cleaning your EGR valve and seeing it the 34 goes away. Not sure how to address the 44. But I would start my making sure all the shit connected to your smog pump is working ok. Check the hose from the smog pump to the h-pipe. If it touches the header it can burn a hole in it and fuck it up.
