https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/04/30/san-jose-considering-new-spectator-ordinance-to-crack-down-on-street-racing-and-sideshows/amp/

2 arguments:

“What you’re suggesting here is that the mere watching of criminal behavior means you can be punished criminally,” Clark said. “That raises some conceptual problems. You can’t be punished for a crime you didn’t commit.”

or

“From the law enforcement point of view, spectators are part of the criminal activity because of the symbiotic relationship between racers and spectators,” Clark acknowledged. “If you remove spectators, you remove the incentive to participate.”

i agree, if youre there, you are part of the problem.

what are your thoughts cafords?

Not a constitutional law. It is difficult for cops to prove you were spectating. The defendant can easily get off with a lawyer, but the law makers know the defendants are poor and can't defend themselves. Listen, the rich people don't want you poor people driving fast and making noise on their streets. You poor people just need to find something better to do, or the rich will continue to pass more "laws" to extract more taxes from you. This revenue they collect from your pockets is then used to pay good peace officers to crack down on your freedom.

bottom line I think if your a spectator your Guilty. If you were just sitting there watching a woman be raped and enjoying it your part of the crime. Obviously 2 major different acts of illegal behavior but same concept

Why would you even go to a side show in the first place?

What side show do you know of that are on the streets of rich people? False statement.

Majority of them look to be in the hood to me.

Houses in the hood, the Oakland ports are owned by the rich and powerful. Poor people don't own land, the rich do.
To those that defend the rich and their guards; the cops, FBI and other police forces. Ever think these officers are the tools of the powerful and corrupt? The elite politicians, generals, CEOs and bankers of your country never go to jail no matter what crimes they commit. Police are the way in which force and power is applied and asserted by the rich and powerful. Ironic police officers themselves are also the victims. They're the ones whose salaries are being slashed, whose pensions are being stolen. Their economic security is being destroyed along with everybody else. They are not welcome in the circles of the elites, because they are not elite. But to the extent they are operating as the arm or weapon of the elite class, then of course police are people who commit egregious crimes all the time. Cops are protected by the court system and by the law. With rare exception officers are subjected to punishment. But not because they themselves are privileged, but because cops essentially act as the guards of those in power, there is an interest to shield police from accountability. They get elite exemption when they act to service and protect the interest of the elite. And that's what you're seeing, the tools of the rich; cops being able to use this excessive "law" enforcement with out much consequence or punishment. And this is the definition of a two tiered justice system. Equality and justice for some.

The thing that sucks about all this is that I don't think it will ever be able to be legitimized. I use to be into it when I was younger but I still have friends who love the culture and they are good people with a love for cars.

At the same time, you have a whole group of people that are just ghetto pieces of shit. That have no respect for anyone or anything and this is where the negativity comes from. With street racing you had people who were doing something illegal but the most they would do when the cops came was run. At the same time the racing was conducted in rural areas or businesses parks where there wasn't too many innocent people.

With certain sideshow crowds, they block busy streets and bridges, throw bottles and shoot at cops when they come and all kinds of other bullshit. That's where the negativity and stereotyping comes in and that's why I don't think it will ever be legit like drag racing and drifting became. Just look what what happened when Sac Speed Shop put on a legit event.

Don't forget that it isn't just "spectating" for all in the crowds. Sideshows elicit a certain environment where those attracted to it have to come "strapped", engage in drinking and driving, stomp sideshow cars out when they get into it, and don't forget the random looting of businesses and vandalizing of cop cars. Groupthink is a real phenomenon, and it only exacerbates shit behavior when you get a large crowd of humans whose prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed + live a lifestyle where they want to do hoodrat things with their friends to post on social media to up their like count.

 -

The currency of likes is a strong persuader and given what I said about the disconnect between actions & long term consequences (brain development), I don't think this will be a sufficient enough of a deterrent for the youngins. We might just be adding another avenue to increase the percentage of first time offenders and boosting the street to prison pipeline.

I used to think the idea of opening a pit to let people do their thing would work but who wants to take on that liability? Imagine trying to take out event insurance and you're like "yeah, we're going to have a few dozen cars doing donuts, uncontrolled underage drinking, loaded weapons firing into the air, the occasional skirmish, and uh, yeah, nothing major." Take out the guns + booze + fights = loses its appeal.

I bet more people have been killed due to street racing than side shows. Not to say sideshows are o.k. to do but street racing is VERY dangerous.

The number of people killed due to automotive hobbies is unmeasurable compared to the number killed due to texting or drinking and driving. It's a hoax.

The point I was trying t make is that a lot of folks on this site LOVE to talk shit about "ghetto ass sideshows" because it does not appeal to them and talk about how dangerous it is etc which is true. But folks should not act like street racing is some noble past time that is completely safe and better.
