Yes, your D drive contains all the recovery files. But to access the recovery drive you use "recover" or "repair" option or Dell's, HP's, etc equivalent at startup. It will bring the computer back to the first day started it up.

Reformatting (wiping the hard drive clean and fresh install) is a different option and it does not access the recovery partition (D drive). The user manually installs everything themselves.

Most computer now a days are not coming with repair disks, as they use this partition (D:Recovery) as a way to reinstall everything in case of a crash.

Thanks,

Making the moderators cyber-sit me is probably a good way of getting my account locked for a while. I know they're busy folks volunteering their time to help others out. It's selfish of me and others who make their task more time consuming and difficult than it already is. In fact I should either chip in and help out or not participate at all. I'm going to do my best to be part of the solution and not the problem from now on.

I would still have some sort of recovery disc or media in case your hard drive dies.

If you contact HP they will send em to you. I have several e1705s here. So if yours is a e1705 I have some you can have.

Also to invoke the restore utility it usually is like cntrl+f11 during start up.

actually ignore my restore disk thing my e1705s are dells.
