I run open track events and would like to try autocross. Is there a group that runs autocross events in the San Jose area?

I have done some A-X. Not in my last car though. Too many issues with it..

They race at the Collosium. In the Bay area. Also at Caslte AFB. A bit of a drive but they do NASA there too.

Open track 2-3 times a year...well, except for this year, saving up for a paint job. Tried autocrossing once, just didn't really float my boat.

I opentrack with the Shelby Club and Green Flag mostly. Didn't do much this year. The Shelby Club usually runs some "fun" auto-x's during the summer. Lots of runs (like 10+), unlike what you'd get with the SCCA or NASA (~3). Timed, but no awards.

Not exactly regular, but have been doing both for about ten years.

Haven't autox'ed in a couple years though.

I try to open track two or three times a year. (Might be at Sears Pt Mon-Tues with tracquest).

I've instructed a few OT events. Once before for Tracquest and several times for Team Miata at Thunderhill. No, I don't have a Miata, but I know THill best and it's a well-run event. And I get free track time and food--sometimes even beer!

I do it in a nearly stock car (I'm resisting the tempation to buy track-only parts).

Chosen1 got me hooked too, his fastback was out of commission so we both drove my drop top in a Golden Gate Fields event which has caused my to purchase a myriad of Suspension parts. Once I get my hood and cowl fixed I plan on racing regularly [patriot]

I've been opentracking for twelve years. First an '88 GT convertible, then a '93 Cobra, now an '89 notchback. Here are a few pics, for those of you who haven't seen it:

are those auto X's open to non members or other car makes. 10 runs sounds like a blast. I wanna do more auto x since I can't run at sacto anymore

Nope. They're from Maier Racing. Fit and finish isn't great, but what the hell--it's a race car. [Razz]
The fronts are complete fiberglass fenders, and the rears are just flares that we riveted on. I actually like the look of the rivets, and I didn't want to spend the $$ on blending the fenders into the stock fenders.

generally you have to be a member of the Shelby Club, Tiger Club, or Ferrari Club. If you aren't it's unlikely you'll know when the events are. Shelby Club membership is $48/yr. I think if you are a NASA or SCCA member can attend, but you'll need to check on that.

Thanks, DropTop! It's a pretty fun ride. When the weather gets better in the spring, I'll take it out for more opentracking. I just wish I had more time to drive it!

I know how that feels Bill. My hood flew up on me like a month and half ago so cureently my car has no hood and it does nothing but rain here so I haven't been driving it. Should be back up and running shortly after the new year [patriot]

The 2004 SCCA stuff starts on superbowl sunday. better get your car fixed droptop. Dont worry though, I raced my first 2 events without a hood.

That's an understatement... [Smile] I do it once in a while also.. My favorite is www.americanauto-x.com you get 5 runs on big courses [Smile] but it's in Atwater at Castle....
I also like the NASA autoX series (was in Marina) but they may not have any events this year unless they find a new site [Frown]
