I need to buy some gloves for open track events. My hands got all sweaty last time, and my hands keep slipping off the steering wheel. Any suggestions on brands?

I just bought a pair of full finger leather gloves from Wilson Leather, they have perforated holes, wrist cuff buttons and give a pretty decent grip. Or you can order real racing gloves from summitracing or check out Simpson Racing store at the intersection of Winding Way and Sunrise (Sacramento).

If you want real racing gloves, go with the sparcos or simpsons. I've had good luck with both those brands.

Gloves are a key element in driver safety, specifically against a fire. Wearing leather or polyester gloves will cause you to lose your hands in the event of a fire. If you gonna wear gloves on the track, please, please, please get some nomex/kevlar gloves. Check out the one's on sale at www.bellmotorsports.com - they're located in Oakland (just on the way to either Sear's PT or T-Hill).
In the event of a fire, leather will shrink, and if you're wearing medium to heavy leather gloves, if they get near (or on) fire, they can literally break your hand. Polyester is even worse, as it will just melt into your skin.
Remember, in the event of a fire, your hands are of the utmost importance. If a fire occurs, you will need to bring your car under control, stop it, then exit. I don't mean to scare anyone, but you've only got a few seconds to get this done. The last thing you need is your gloves preventing your from accomplishing this life saving task...
And while on this soap box, please consider racing shoes as well. For the same reasons as I stated about the gloves. Also, if you are wearing rubber soled shoes, it will be really hard to exit a vehicle on fire if your shoe soles have melted onto the brake pedal.
Good gloves and shoes will only set you back $100 - $120, and when added with cotton pants and a cotten long sleaved shirt (and helmet), you should be ok for enjoying open track at a novice level.

I have a question. Is everyone opposed to Frey Racing or something? They are right in Milpitas and they had Nomex gloves if I remember correctly. Their prices seemed reasonable.

I agree with Cobra 427. Spend the $$ and buy some real gloves. I have some Simpsons that I like. They were about $75. Well worth the $$$.

But for me I get so sweaty when I race I cant old a wheel with out it slipping hehe There not that expensive and I feel they are way worth it.
