Some time back I posted a question about an oil pressure issue I was having with my 65 mustang I-6. Pressure was erratic and seemed to depend a lot on the physical stance of the car at any one time. Turns out the new oil pump body was slightly thicker than it should have been, which was pushing the oil pickup so low into the pan that it was having time sucking oil into the pick-up. Replacing the pump with a new new one that was according to spec solved the problem. obviously my engine builder did not check properly for clearance when the engine was reassembled.

I remember that post. glad you found the issue. seems alot of people just install the pickup with out checking proper clearance

Thanks for sharing. I've used a ball of clay to check the clearance between the pickup and the pan. Put masking tape over the pickup and then the clay. Put the pan on and take it off. Pan studs instead of bolts make installing the pan very easy. Measure the thickness of the clay to see if it's within specification.
