I know this is a dumb question, but where does the shift indicator cable attach to from the shifter?

I'm swapping a 93 a4ld trans and shifter into an 87 4cyl coupe and was just wondering where that goes since the 87-89 automatic cars didn't come with that cable. Thanks in advance!
