Have you guys had issues with the CPS? Which one are you running? Just trying to do research.

You talking about crank potion sensor?

Posted by Notch1320 (Member # 2647) on :

Only with the factory original one. The International ones are said to be the best option when replacing.

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

Yeah the Crank Position Sensor.
I heard you can't get the factory original anymore and I was doing research and sounds like the international one isn't very good either.

There was a recall a few years ago on it.

What color do you suggest if i can't get black?
What are the symptoms you had? My truck is having issues starting cold and it doesn't seem to be fuel or the cold but once it has started it doesn't do it again.

Check the pump pressure. Has to be higher than 600 to start cold. If the thing runs the CPS is good. IH has the Blue or black sensors . I have a few laying around i think. I gave away 2 to a guy last month. If i had known i would have given them to you.

How do i check pressure?

Its kind of random when it does it. I'll let this post know if it does it again tomorrow morning.

I'm running a blue one. Could be your uvch harness too, I had two fail on me.

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

What uvch?

Under valve cover wiring harness. The clips break and they will leave you stranded.

They have been UP DATED 2 times and the new ones are real good.

So this morning it took 3 times of cranking before it fired up. Key on then key off. After work first try fired right up and drove home way smoother than its driven in a while. WTF is going on here.

Glow plug relay sounds like your problem,a bad CPS like I stated before would not let the truck start at all, usually hard starts are the GPR or the GP themselves, the wiring harness issue is not really a problem with 99+ 7.3s only the OBS trucks..check into this my friend

http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/s_gpr.php

Also I belive the 99+ trucks have a GPR controller on top of the GPR and GP,could also be your controller but most likely it's the GPR, happens as often as the CPS issue,my truck won't start forever in the cold unless it's plugged in via the block heater,my GPR is good I just tossed it up to GP themselves, when I do a injector upgrade I will replace the GP also..

I think your talking about the CA Smog legal 7.3Ls having the GPR controller. My truck is from Arizona so it only has the GPR.
Thanks for the info, i wish i saw it earlier i owuld have gotten that White-Rodgers GPR instead of some Chinese made one.

Ah yes the ca-legal trucks are different than the 49 state trucks, went to buy a ts6 chip from a guy and it wouldn't work cause his truck was from Wisconsin, damn Cali!

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

Yeah i didn't know they had a difference in 7.3Ls when i bought my truck when i found out mine was an out of stater i was really happy. No Cat too.

I put a bigger glow plug relay in. I had an extra one but it's packed somewhere. Go to guzzler 7.3 he has the info on it and the install process. Mine overheated and set the wires on fire, so I got the new one.

Let the truck sit for the past 2 days and went to go shooting this morning and it crank and sounded like it was going to fire so i let go of the key and it died. Tried starting it again and it cranked longer than it should [Frown] Luckily i got my new CPS today in the mail so i swapped that out. Truck seems to be running better, its smoother and so far seems to be starting better but the motor was been warm all day so the ultimate test will be tomorrow when its raining and 40 degrees.

Yeah i am going to do this mod as well. Were the wires long enough for the bigger GPR?

Posted by Tom Renzo (Member # 13165) on :

Could definitely be a Glow plug relay

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

Well when this chinese piece of shit goes out i am definitely going to a bigger GPR now that i know about it.

Posted by 70mach351 (Member # 7528) on :

Yes fits a little snugger but bolts right in.

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

Thats good to know, the wires seemed a little tight when i installed the replacement

When fire seasons over I'd replace the uvc wiring harness. It will go out!

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :
