What is a best way to clean a gas tank? I have 91 coupe and it was sitting for 7 years , I look inside it had some rust and old gas.

If it has rust I would just throw in another tank personally

They're only like $120 for a brand new tank. That's better than risking some rust go through your fuel lines, rails, injectors and motor.

Take it to a radiator shop have them boil it an coated.

Where are you located? I have a 96 tank but the pump is bad. No rust though lol

I stay at SacTown and my fuel pump is bad to. I'm going look into a local shop and see how much it cost. thanks for the feedback [patriot]

Having it boiled at a radiator shop is your best bet to get everything out. Last estimate I got several years ago was $90. At that price, might as well buy a new one from Latemodelrestoration for $112.

The cheap and easy DIY is to take the tank out of the car, pour a gallon of white vinegar in the tank and drop about 18 inches of heavy chain in the tank and shake it like a muthafucker. It'll get most of the rust out.

Buy a new tank your best bet. I would get a stainless one. That is all we use when available or we have them custom made. Good luck

Those are really nice, but it doesn't look like the OP is interested in spending $1K if he thinks $120 is too much.

Just an option thats all. We in the past years have used cheap tanks with bad results on cars that do not have daily use. naturally in CA you guys have good weather year round and cruse. You can get reasonable SS tanks for like 250 Bucks or so. But trying to clean an old rusty tank is useless, We have tried this many times with no success. His best bet is a cheap tank other than coatings that are also expensive and i do not trust that. Thanks Tom

The chain in the tank with chemicals does work. Guys have done that with good results. But i do not know how messed up the tank is. If he has a big rust issue it will pollute his entire fuel system and that will cost him HUNDREDS. Just a point.

I did what you said and it work but I had to shake that mother fuckin gas tank for 1 hour tho, but it was a good pump for my biceps. Thank everyone for your feedback
