I just finished installing a new engine in my 89 fox. Heads cam intake. It is a custom cam. I've put everything together. Car is running real rough. Poping thru the exhaust. I dropped the dist at TDC and pointed the rotor at the number one plug. Firing order I've tried both old and new firing orders. Car only turns on with the old firing order, but according to what I've read it should be the new H.O firing order not the old one. What am I doing wrong? Can it be rocker adjustment? Need to get my car running and broken in for knotts. Thanks for any help.

I'm going to redo for the 3rd time the dist and firing order today. I'm stumped. Also a compression check.

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 counter clockwise from #1. Are you sure the distributor isn't 180* out? That's kind of what it sounds like. It will kinda run, lots of loud pops/backfires etc

If I run it 180 car won't even start... I ran that firing order it won't even turn on with that. The other firing order starts itup

your a tooth off, try turning the dis all the way to one side or another and see if it gets better

This works well if you have your timing light on and are pointing it at the balancer/timing pointer to see where you're at as far as timing

Was their an old firing order besides Lincoln ? In your statement you say new HO ?? Is this the stock 89 HO block you are running all your cam and things with? Or a different short block from something else?

Different block.. Car is now fixed and runs great... It was vacuum lines, bad/old gas, timing and a couple other things.
