What I have is a 1990 Lx 5.0, 5 speed, it has a 87 engine in it, but distributor and intake changed to 90 . The timing is at 10 degrees, usual timing on these stock cars. Everything is stock! No aftermarket anything. Anyway when I take it for a spin up the block, first gear , when I hit the gas the engine will stall out as if loss of fuel, when I let off it runs fine. Now if I gradually press the gas it seems to go, but as soon as you give it any type throttle it backs off sometimes you here a pop from the exhaust. When starting it will fire right up, no problems, when shutting off it shuts off fine. All smog equiptment is in great working condition, no carbon buildup in the heads or intake, pretty clean engine. EGR new, IAC new, correct spark gap, new wires, new cap rotor, any ideas???

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

Changed it when I replaced the fuel pump pick up screen. I cleaned the MAF but no change. I just went out and did a KOER test, code 33 EGR and code 94 air diverter solenoid failure, not sure on this one?

Whats the fuel pressure at the rail?

Replaced the TPS checked it was at .82, so put another on it , now reads .94 I think this is within specs. But I will check the fuel pressure. Last start to see if the TPS was working you could hear the pump come on, whining little b***, but when I started it it sounded like it was trying to reach max fuel pump speed. You would think when the pump comes on it's a steady sound?

Need to know the fuel pressure with no vacuum. Check the cats!!

Koeo, no vacuum 40-42psi no drop in pressure ,
KOER idle, 30-32 psi .
When gas is pressed it will drop to 20 psi.
Does this sound like a fuel pump

If your filter was recently changed then either the fuel pump, relay, or damaged wiring

I'm leaning towards the pump. This car has been a year long every weekend project. It arrived as a shell and glass only. Every nut and bolt was installed to make a car . This is an unusual problem that I get when bringing these cars back from the dead. Most the time the pump will just go, but like I said the pump sound a bit more high piched whine rather than the norm. I will up date thanks
