The starter in my 88 GT is going out, and im looking to replace/upgrade it... since im new to 5.0's, im looking for suggestions on what you guys think the best starter out there is. Ive seen then from $60 up to $300...

Any cheap stock replacement at any auto store.

I bought a Ford replacement for about 120$. Get the newer one for '93 and newer Mustang. It is a better starter. There is a link online for the wiring changes you will need to make. If I find it I will post also.

Here is the diagram for wiring up this new starter. I did on my '90 Mustang and it worked perfectly.

Dont buy one from kragen/oreilly ive bought 5in a row and they chewed my flywheel up.
It was installed when i replaced my motor and the shop that put it in thought they did something wrong until we switched to a diff brand starter and everything was good...

Hmm idk why ppl are not recamending high torque starters, is their something wrong with those?

Thanks guys, i ended up with this one off ebay:

eBay

Appears to be a direct bolt-on... has a single lug to connect to the factory cable and a jumper wire to the solenoid to engage it.. seems well built too. We'll see when i do my clutch...
