I may have over tightened my non adjustable pedestal mount rocker arms. I was slowly turning the engine over by hand, and heard a pop sound come from one of them. I don't want to fire this thing off until I have checked everything in the valve train. I looked at everything I could but couldn't seen anything wrong, where else should I look and what should I be looking for?

Honestly, and more embarassingly, I don't know. I didnt check. I had just tightened them down slowly, until the pushrod stopped spinning freely, on each one. Then I would move on to the next after turning the crank by hand until the valve would be closed, and repeated above process. Does that make sence? I have a bad feeling that I may have eff'd something up. I just looked up on cranes website for checking lifter preload, and I didnt do any of what they describe. Looks like I will be busy this weekend.

youtube it and double check you have the correct pushrod length as well, its really easy once you have seen it done

and its the up and down motion your worried about, so I can tell you they are too tight right now

ok, so I think, no, I know I will be backing them off this weekend, because of the popping sound from when I turned it over by hand to make sure I was @ TDC on # one, should I be looking for some broken parts? i.e. broken pedestals, pushrod tips?

that and try to get a good feel on the lifters..hard to tell what the noise could be...

What if I pull out the lifters, one by one? What should I be looking for?

they are all in one piece, compress and come back, roll smoothly
