Does the heater core need to be replaced for the a/c to blow cold .I have the heater core bypass right now, because it leaks. I'd appreciated any help I can get. Thanks

No the heater core is like a radiator. Water runs through it and it gets warm and then a fan blows the hot air into the car.

The AC system is independent of the heater core.

The AC has a condensor that looks like a small radiator. It is located in front of the radiator. There is a line that runs to a canister on the passenger side firewall near the smog tube coming from the back of the heads on the engine.

The line then runs from the canister behind the intake manifold to the AC pump above the power steering pump.

Have the system checked for leaks and then have it filled back up by a shop.
