i was driving down highway 4 coming up on traffic so i down shifted and got back on the gas and car shut off and hasn't started since i redid timing and changed timing chain even tho it wasn't needed it but did it anyway once the car start it idles fine for a min and then it starts to idle rough and wants to cut off unless i continue to hit the gas.
its a carb'd 302 in my 79 coupe.

Have you tried messing with the carb? Is the distributor holding the timing?

:
Has to be your distributor.

I'm not sure I figured it was the carb the distributor seems fine but ill try that to check off all the possibilities

How long does the car usually run fine for before it starts to trip out?
Posted by 68StangTAY (Member # 11114) on
:
Ill say about 10 seconds or less

thats weird that a carb motor is doing that.. if you hold it down long enough, does it stay on once its warmed up? or regardless of how long its on, it always shuts off when you let off the gas?
Posted by 68StangTAY (Member # 11114) on
:
It shuts off no matter what an I've checked everything possible that I could think of so far
