well I put my motor back together. I went thur all the torque sequences, but I used the stock head bolts. Now that I have it running I have a water leak at the lower bolt between the head gasket and block. I used thread sealant on all the lower bolts. What could have caused this? The heads were clean as well as the block? warped head?? By the way its only the front bolt right above the filter on a 302. All compression is good! should I pull the head and run arp bolts or buy a new set of bolts for this head?

I know it sucks, but to do it right, pull both heads off and use ARP studs or bolts and have your heads checked for warping. I personaly use ARP 1/2 inch studs

I don't believe the motor got really hot, but they were used heads, however when I pulled them off the motor the first time there was no sign of any gasket problem.

Had a leak in the same spot as you after a head swap. Turned out to be a cracked block at the bolt hole.
