why would you want to use too big of a relay ? I think that there is such a thing as too big. the relay wont close (the circuit) if its rated for higher amperes.

the relay will still close and do what ever u want. think of a relay as a car amp. except the car amp makes power and will push it. in the relays corner it will only pull what the circuit wants or needs, but regardless relays and amps need and work off of power, ground, remote, and signal out. relays are the same exact way. can u over power your unit with to big of a relay? no cause it will only pull the power the relayed unit wants or requires. thus it wont blow or damage the relay for sure, now the only worry i would have is to make sure the fuse will pop at the correct rating your unit is or should pull. is it over kill no, is it pointless yes.

I don't consider my self strong in the field of electronics; however.......
For relays. .....It is a factor of amperage & voltage!!!!! Most common use for example; .....work off high amperage/low voltage.
