5 speed conversion w/ your choice of a short shifter.

If it were mine Id do a gear swap ..373s or 410s..electric fan from junkyard..taurus or mark 8 with a 3g alternator.

What are your goals for the car?

Posted by nitrous_bob (Member # 77) on :

the BEST bang for your buck mods are these

1) gears
2) tires
3) nitrous

#1 requires #2
#3 requires #2

your car requires #1,#2,#3

a stock notch 5 speed will run 12's all day long with tires and gears on a small shot

how bout putting a frame and reinforcing the torque boxes so its not a throw away car after u do all that other stuff?

I went 12.20s at 114 stock mttor with headers and nitrous, gears and slicks.

I went 12.8 @ 113 with stock motor, 3:73 gears and a 100 shot. Not bad...

im looking to try and eventually be putting out around 400rwhp, i want it to be able to handle practically any road course track i put it on while remaining streetable. im sitting at roughly 270rwhp now, i would prefer not to mess with NOS and keeping it naturally aspirtated is a plus as well, besides i cant afford a supercharger and all it requires ha. but dont i wish [burnout] [burnout] [burnout] [burnout]

you realize you wont do that with a 302 and NA right ? not without spending big money

well that changes everything...because basically every thing you do to make it corner better...makes it a slower 1/4 mile car and vice versa

so here ya go, NEW top

1) 2.73 gears
2) full poly kit from energy suspension
3) mega bite jr LCA's

So i would have to go for an aspiration converstion if i wanted to get to 400? damn i have no idea how much super chargers are going for. not sure if i can afford that

if your looking for 400 plus hp you need to look into a stroker or maybe even a 351w build. i say 351 but im not in the mood to shoot facs out at the moment

Posted by triple b (Member # 8763) on :

Some strokers won't get tht # either better do ur homework before you drop the coin

They were rated at 225 horsepower and 300 ft lbs of torque from the factory, however 20 years laters and alot of abuse even with the boltons that you have, your car would be lucky to even make anywhere near 200 horespower.. Real Spit. The same goes for all foxes.. I'll pull up some dyno charts to show you what Im saying, I have seen full hci cars with aluminum heads barely make 300 rwhp. which is typical for a stock bottom end 302 with hci.

The good thing is it doesn't take a lot of HP to beat chevys

yes at the crank

they are about 185 at the wheels all stock, and your mods have not added anything really to be honest

the stock induction is good for 300 hp, so adding an intake , or TB, or MAF doesnt make you a single thing

if peple have proven they got faster by doing so, what they had was broken or improperly working

a stroker and power adder will get 500

HCI or really just a good ported HI combo with 1.7's and stock cam with a power adder will get you 400

i havent dyno'd my car but it should be about 400 crank HP, not RWHP

i have eddy heads w/ 1.7's port matched to a true gt40 tubular ported , 65tb, 76 maf, 24lb'ers, 1 3/4" long tubes, and 2 1/2" back non catted with a 125 dry shot

Can you break into 11's with that setup?

And to the op it's guna take heads cam n intake + s-trim if u really want 400 at the wheels with your 5.0

Thank You for elaborating Bob, didnt want to have to pull up the charts and hurt his feelings. LoL

You want your car to take corners confidently?
Buy a panhard bar

Won't hurt your qtr mile times or launches whatsoever

They are factory in newer mustangs for a reason

WELD IN subframe connectors. Torque box reinforcements.

it should be good for 11.80's, its not been to the track though. FYI my car with me in it...weighs under 3200

and HCI with s trim is good for more than 400

i have 2 buddies, that do 497, and the other is 512

Holy shit okay i was told incorrect information, well thanks for clearing up how much horsepower i have, guess ill have to take it to a dyno one day

Hmm I went 12.50 at 107 with 355s headers and slicks no spray..I see it breaking into 12.3s with minor adjustments

That's most likely to the crank. My car made 220rwhp all stock with just longtubes. If you're planning breaking 400's you're definitely gonna have to give up on the N/A part unless you wanna spend more cash building it past 400 N/A than you would with spray or boost.

where can i find a supercharger kit for a fair price?

H/C/I/S-trim should net closer to 500RW with good parts.

I wouldn't be comfortable running that with a stock block that you want to last for a while without splitting LOL

it's not smart to push it right to your blocks limit, It would be smarter to run that same setup at a reliable, comfortable, 400ish to the wheels, unless u got a real block.

if my goal was a minimum of 400 to the wheels with a 302, id run a hci s-trim combo

Oh well it's just a stock short block they're a dime a dozen as long as you don't mess up your heads in the process then screw it.

There's a dude on the Corral that split his stock block with a N/A 347 making 363RW. Some will last forever and others will break barely pushing anything.
