hey guys im thinking bout getting sum long tube headers for my car. just been looking into both shorties and long tube and wanted to know what you guys recommend or have to say about each of them

you'll get more out of longtubes then shorties, longtubes arent smog legal some shorties are. probabaly a difference of about 15-20 between the 2. if you get cams longtubes all the way

Alot of people say longtubes arent worth the hassle. The gains over GOOD shorties are minimal and some really high horsepower street cars are runnung shorties nowadays.

Yea i was thinkin long tubes for the extra power. If i could pull similar hp with shorty would it pass smog

Damn that much! That sounds sick! Yea my boy got long tubes also and hearing and seeing sum of the cars this weekend is convincing me go long tubes for sure

Yeah my car loved going from shorties with stock H pipe to longtubes with offroad x. I kept my stock mufflers kuz I didn't wanna attract attention from cops.

Posted by Stack510 (Member # 11918) on :

Yea for later wen i really have the money i was debating on gettin x pipe or new h pipe aswell. I think ima just keep the stock h pipe run the long tubes and see how that goes for now. Thats pretty smart keepin the old mufflers. U keep the tips the same as well or u put new tips

Posted by NEIGHT (Member # 8741) on :

If you go longtubes ur old mid-pipe won't work kuz it'll be too long. N I kept the stock tips too. I always think my car is loud but when I'm around dudes with aftermarket mufflers you can't even hear my car kuz it's so quiet lol

Posted by Stack510 (Member # 11918) on :

Yea my boy was tellin me that too. I gotta get midpipe that fits. Haha dude that how i feel now wen i go out on cruises nd stuff make my car feel like it a v6 by not hearing anything lol it good though as long as i get the power to show it know wat i mean haha

you got a 3v 281 nieght has a old push rodd motor 302, there a difference there but with a good tune you can net those numbers aswell. if you had a 2v like me either one wouldn't be worth the hassel

Posted by Stack510 (Member # 11918) on :

Damn ok i see there. Yea im still learning alot bout my car and bout cars themselves. But good to know. So a 3v would be good to put headers then. I know forsure i wana put a tune in it just a matter of when ima do it for that. If i could pull good net power after all that i think id be satisfied. Im still reading up and researching a bunch of things to do to it. Thanks

watch this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcQPiLTdt04

it's s/c but you'll gain about the same give or take 10hp/10tq

Damn thats pretty good. I think ima have to go with that. I know ima tune it forsure. Thanks alot!

Someone has to say it...

Longtube headers are NOT smog legal in California....unless the smog Nazi's just passed something that I hadn't heard. Shorties need to have the CARB sticker/number for those to be smog legal as well. I have MAC shorties and the dude smogging my car asked about my CARB number.

Unless you have someone to overlook this, be aware. [Wink]

i love my bbk shorties with bbk offroad x pipe. Shorties create more torque which is what u need on the street, long tubes more hp

Yeat the thing that bugs me is that cali is so strict. But im sure id b able find a place where id b able to "pass" it..right?
So u actually produce even more torque wit the shorty then with the longtube? Im mainly lookin more hp for mine

Longtubes are not necessary unless you are making big power (500+ rwhp). Just a waste of time and too much of a hassle. Stick with shorties, nothing wrong with them at all.

An un-named person on here recently put down something in the neighborhood of 800 rear wheel with big tube shorties.Guess this is one of those things that depends on who you talk to.

i cant tell between my shorties with offroad xpipe n flows vs long tubes

Posted by Stack510 (Member # 11918) on :

What the most i can add in hp if i get shorties then. Say i get a good x or h pipe. If i get shorties tho it would be bc it can pass smog. Do the shorties pass smog?

not worth the hassle of taking off and putting on, and if the cops not a dipshit he'll know its illegal instantly. no thanks on the ref ticket

and that gain was also goin from the stock h-pipe to a off road x-pipe, less than half that gain was from the headers i can guarantee that

yes, but it must have a C.A.R.B. (california air resource board) exempt with a #. There are no 50 legal X/H pipes with a carb #, but alot of people get away with 49 state legal x/h pipes.

Yea i guess since its my daily driver i wouldnt wana risk gettin caught with long tubes. Il probly wait til i get another commuter vehicle. Esp since i have to start smoggin my car now since the 5 yr is up. How much is a fine for having long tubes anyways

Well if you don't have loud ass aftermarket mufflers you don't gotta trip kuz you're nice N quiet at idle.
