Can I swap axels for five lug to an 8.8 I'm thinking no but dnt know forsure let me kno thx.

7.5 and 8.8 axles are interchangeable, you can do the 5 lug conversion to the 7.5 now and transfer to an 8.8 down the road when you do an motor swap and install an 8.8

If you can find a 7.5 rear assembly with 28splined axles then yes they are the same. It will work!!!!
Spline count for this project will help you determine the fitment. The length is the same. Metal integrity is the same. [patriot]

Sorry, confused your project with someone elses
For your 5 lug conversion the 83 to about 86 Ranger 7.5 axles are a direct fit (with drums)into your 8.8 housing.
There is no difference in strength between the 7.5 and 8.8 axles.
Always check the bearing surface on used axles for any grooves or wear
