Im swapping hoses, t stat, and housing...it was a pain the ass getting that lower bolt off the housing, but i got it, now im trying to install my new housing and that lower bolt seems to be trying my patience! cant get a wrench on it, and cant line it up to thread into the manifold. wtf is the deal? do i have to take off the water pump to access it? btw im not changing my water pump, its still good, so i hope thats not the route i need to go...and also what do you use to keep the t stat steady in the housing so i can install it correctly and should i use the gasket and sealant together?

you can do it with everything on.. just harder to do.

to keep the thermostat in, use a little drop of rtv sealer to hold it in the housing. works for me everytime.

Use some silicone to hold the thermostat in the housing. Try a quarter inch drive ratchet with an extension and a swivel.

I use rtv sealer to hold the thermostat in place. I always use a wrench on the lower bolt. It works for me everytime.

Silicone worked, thanks! And by undoing the ac, made it a whole lot easier to get a wrench to that lower bolt

Does that hex headed bolt that threads into the top of the housing need any thread sealant?

If it has been out it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put some type of sealent on there.

damn! i just finished draining and filling and burping the isht out of the cooling system!

will it be ok to undo the bolt and throw some sealant on it with coolant in there still?

When you pull it back out a little bit of coolant will come with it, I don't think you will have to reburp the system.

I put an aluminum radiator & electric fans, which did away w/ the fan shroud.. Now there isn't any room for the resivoir, I bought a catch can but there doesnt seem like there is any room to mount that either.. What can I do? Leave the coolant level a little low so when it gets hot it doesn't rise to high? I just got a 1/2" tube from where the resivoir would hook up down towards the ground so it wouldn't make a mess incase it did get hot, but I might not have it as full as it should be

I wouldnt recommend this. Back when people didnt give a shit about the enviroment, cars didnt have catch cans on radiators, if you want to run one, maybe find a smaller one, or find another spot in the engine bay.
