I miss having my Z06 & I'm really getting the itch to go back to the road course. Im kicking around this crazy idea for a "budget" track car.
Start with a new edge V6 5 speed since I've found a few for ~$3k. Change the rear to an IRS from a Cobra and all other supporting mods (13" brakes, full suspension mods, recaro/corbeau's, 6pt roll bar, oil cooler, etc) .
Anyhow, what's the usual cost to swap over to an IRS rear? Is it a direct bolt in swap?

it was $650 out of pocket for my IRS. That included MM poly cradle bushings, billetflow IRS diff brace, calipers, pads, rotors, ABS sensors + harness's (they are different than SRA), the bilstein shocks and some springs, all of the bolts, stock gears in it and a set of ford racing 4.30 gears, installation kit, and royal purple gear oil all new in box.
It is an easier bolt in swap to a new edge sn95 than a 96-98, I had to fabricate a brake line adapter to use the IRS brake hoses on my car. I believe the new edges are just bolt in. I had to drill 4 vertical holes in the trunk to securely mount the IRS cradle mounts as my sn95 did not have provisions, new edge chassis may.

I have about 1100 into mine including the H&R race springs, the rest stock. It is pretty much a bolt in. You do have to knock out the bump stops and drill some holes in the frame rail for the rear bracket. Here is a writeup on how I drilled the holes in page 3. Hope that helps

Can I ask why you wouldn't just do a ta/phb?

Just put an IRS in my 03' Mach. This thing is WAY better! The SRA was such a harsh / shitty ride I hated driving the car.
I have about $1000 in to it, including the FTBR bushing set. I have stock 03' cobra springs, with 1 coil cut, and factory 03' cobra bilsteins. You do have to remove bump stop (I spent about 10 mins trying to get the rear of the cradle up in to place before I noticed this!), but everything is easy. You need the ABS sensors, but the brake lines work fine. You need to bend them a little bit so they don't rub on the shock, but it's simple. All new edge cars should have the nuts in place for the rear IRS cradle mount.

I just wanted something different and honestly for me, the IRS was cheaper too. I had the stock 2.87 gears and wanted 3.55 and the rear end was tired so to add that cost of rebuilding with gears, LCA, cobra brakes, and PHB would have costed more. The 03/04 sports 31 spline axles, cobra brakes and better street manners right off the bat... and it was a fun and drifferent project. my justification at least.
