rent a pulley puller from an auto parts store, or pull the pump instead?

Go buy the pulley puller its only like 14 bucks. Its good to have one laying around. I have one you can borrow if you want to make the drive

do i have to take the allen bolt out? or does the puller pull out over allen? i borrowed a pulley puller from my neighbor. if so, is it a left or right hand thread?

No bolts to pull off, it just looks like there is due to the hex recess on end of shaft.
The pulley will come right off with the correct puller, or bend with the wrong style puller.
You need the puller which has two halves shells and a sleeve which slides over them and a center bolt.

I have a trick I use on the SN95s

Looks like you are local if you are still fighting this thing. I also have the puller.
