Ok so my lower intake was leaking bad so I had to tear it apart and what not. The distributor has to be pulled out in order to do the intake so I marked everything before I took it off. Once I put everything back together it doesn't want to stay on now and it sounds like its off timing. So I went online and searched on the procedure so I could redo the whole timing again. On one of the searches it says I need a scan tool to properly set the timing. Does anyone know if u really do need the scan tool ? If I do need it I'm going to have to take it to a shop because I don't have a scan tool. Need help ASAP as this is my only transportation right now. Thanks

Tell me bout it. I swear these foos are retarded. Who the fuck puts the distributor way in the Fucken back. I have to Fucken climb in the dam engine bay and Im 6' now that's bullshit. One of the dumbest designs if u ask me.

The thing I hate about them is the damn oil pump shaft is slotted! The fords hex is so much nicer to line up. But I finally took a old Chevy dizzy and pulled the gear off it
So I just put it in and turn the rotor
Where I want it. But ya scan tool
And set cam retard to 0* +/- 2*

Has to be above 1200 rpm to be accurate also.

I'll just take it to the shop because I don't want to buy a scan tool. I don't use it enough to actually invest in one. Yea I had a hard as time turning the dam oil pump shaft and I could barely see the dam shaft being its way in the back cause those Chevy fuck tarts thought it was a great idea. Fucken morons.

I don't think that would work. I need tech 2 or something like that. I think the one u have just reads codes.

I think any of the professional scanners are capable, my snap on solus is what I use, you just need to be able to
Read data, cam retard data. See if you are able to read data with your hand held reader. A lot of them a data capable

Yea that would work also. I used to work at a shop but it just wasn't my thing after working there I found out it wasn't for me.

Ok so I took the truck to the shop and they did the timing and said cylinders 3 & 4 are missing so they check that and now they tell me the injector is bad. It was working fine before I took it apart. Could the spider injector go bad from just one day to another ? I mean it didn't even have any signs of missfireing and it just goes out that quick. I talked to another mechanic friend of mine and said that missfirig on 3& 4 can be caused by a broken distributor cap also and that's what I was leaning towards not a bad injector. The dam thing is like $300 plus. It just sounds kinda weird to me that it went bad from one day to another while I fixed the intake leak.

I actually have had 2 trucks come through my shop and 1 I personally worked on. I did a lower intake due to a croaked manifold at the heater hose fitting. So when I swapped everything over and started it I had 4 injectors not working. Had power/ground but no spray. Just by swapping them onto the new intake I disturbed something to clog them. Had to install a new injector pack (CPI unit)

Ya st saw it, napa sells the CPI units, also I think gm had a extended warranty on the if you don't have the updated style CPI. Worth calling and looking into. Save ya some
Time and money. I think napas were like 300$

Yea I called around for prices and theyre like $300 or so. Yea I heard about the recall or update thing. I'll look into that. I've taken the truck to the dealer before for something like that but don't remember if they changed it or not. I'll call tomorrow. Thanks for your help. Appreciate it.
