well i have been trying to fight the jeep gremlins N im stuck.

Its a 5.2L chrysler V8 that makes a really lousy screetching/squealing noise when it warms up.

Changed water pump N pulley thinking it was that but no cigar.

Its NOT a pulley, bc when i cold start it it idles real quiet N smooth. As soon as shes warm it starts to make the noise! It pulls smooth and healthy its just this noise gets under my skin sounds like a bucket.

Any info to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

IDLER PULLEY? If it was a pulley wouldn't it start making the squealing noise as soon as the pulleys started to spin? It only does it when its warm Brett. When its in motion i cant hear it but once u come to a stop its obvious.

Belt is fine i installed a new 1 when i pulled out the old water pump

could be it only does it cus the bearing heats upp and the bearing is shot

Oh ok that makes more sense. Yeah it does make a friction squeal. U think u can check it out for me Bret? I can bring it by if its cool after work lmk. This noise is a PITA

once it starts doing it, turn it off and pull the belt off then start it up again...

I will Brett.

Ill keep that in mind Blind that seems like the easiest way to figure out if its a pulley or not.

Thanks for the input

Blind I did take of the belt and the whinning continues. Could it be a vacuum leak, or maybe the oil pump? Im stuck here been chasing this noise for a while.

It happens only when its warm, it idles for about 8-10min on a cold start and starts making the noise as soon as it gets the temp warn. All gaugues read fine EXEPT oil pressure its actually peaked all the way at full oil pressure as soon as i star it.

well you narrowed it down away from all the belt spun accessories at least.

Now there's still a lot of moving parts, but it could be a lot of things. I'd suggest a mechanics stethascope or a long screw driver to try and isolate the noise.

could be timing chain related, oil pump, distributor, idle air control valve, torque converter, starter getting hung up on the flexplate, maybe the balancer is 2 piece like a foxbody and the rubber is coming apart, etc.

Don't run it too long with the belt off as the water pump is obviously not running, but since you eliminated the belt driven things it should be fine to leave the belt on now while you poke around.

i had a bad distriburtor that sounded like a bird under my hood only when the engine warmed up..

Thanks Blind yeah I took off the belt for a bit, still made the noise.

68 yeah ill take off the distributor and take a look. A couple people told me it was a worn out dizzy doing the whinning. Sounds like a turkey under the hood
