yes it would be necessary to use a adjustable proportioning valve if you go with rear disc brakes
also, you need to gut your stock disc/drum proportioning valve. the disc/drum proportioning valve retains a little bit of pressure for the drum brakes to operate properly (rear disc brakes will drag).
drum brakes operate using a lot less pressure then a disc brake setup does. your stock disc/drum proportioning valve will not supply enough pressure to rear disc brake setup (calipers need more pressure)....which is why you gut the stocker and add a inline adjuster
