so on the freeway, in 5th grear, around freeway speeds, off the gas peddal, then tap the peddal semi agressive to accelerate and i hear a clunk from the rear end...

could it be gap between worn ring n pinion?

could it be u joint?

opionins appreciated [Smile]

pinion crush sleeve has collapsed most likely.

my old 4.30 geared SRA however wore the spines on the axles enough to cause a similar clunk between shifts and on/off the gas.

thanks for the response blind i appreciate it.

just curious if this was a common thing to happen in foxbodys? (or maybe just the 5speed ones)?

mines the original 8.8 rear end w/ 92k btw and nothing inside it has ever been replaced, pretty sure diff cover has never even been taken off..

I would also check the u joints , I always like to check the easy stuff first

naturally, it's easy to check all the related parts, just jack the rear up, leave the trans in gear, and try to move the driveshaft, then the u-joints, then the pinion flange on the front of the diff, then spin the wheels back and forth.

parts wear out.
