Does the 1993 cobra comp really take timing outa the comp? The a9p comps came in the aod model mustangs do they work when you plug them in a 5speed mustang is there a differnce ?
Just try to build up more knowlegde on this

A9P works in auto or 5spd, A9L only works in original 5spd cars if you hook one up in a auto car you have to solder 2 terminals together or youll fry it

a9p has more timing advance

used an a9l in an auto `91 5.0 for years and it worked perfectly fine.

did you run the a9l specific harness for the self-diagnostic crap or whatever its called? the auto harness is missing it

I wouldn't put a Cobra ECU in a car other then a '93 Cobra. I installed an A9L in a '93 Cobra once and it ran horrible until I put the Cobra ECU back in.

no, just swapped the failed a9p out for an a9l and everything worked, CEL and eec-iv self tests included
