so just last week i heard a strong grinding noise when ever i went on 3rd,4th,5th gear. then when i step on it and speed it up the car started to shake and a weird noise from the rear of the car so i thought it was the suspension and i check it and everything look good and check all the bolts and everything was good. then the grinding noise on the tranny kept getting louder and i felt the speed of the car less then usual so what can it be need help asap???? thanks cafords

could be something as simple as the wrong or messed up u-joints. It happened to me once where the u joint shifted off center because I purchased the wrong u-joint...

I can only speculate what can possibly be happening. 1st and 2nd gear isn't spinning the driveshaft fast enough to cause much disturbance with the tranny. But once your car is at higher speeds going into 3rd, 4th and 5th causes the driveshaft to vibrate so much that would cause more of a disturbance within the tranny(?). Does it grind if you put it in 3rd gear at a stand still? The vibrations usually would come from a rotating force that is out of balance. Another thing that I can think of (since this had happened to my sister) is a crack pressure plate(?). Just throwing things out there for you...

sounds related to the rear diff gears to me, does the sound go away if you clutch / go into neutral while on the freeway at speeds where the noise is happening?

If your tranny is grinding when you shift the gears down or up usually means the syncro rings are bad...time to rebuild it if there is grinding noise while driving and the car is in one gear its the rear end if your driving and there is excessive vibrations its your driveline..hard to tell from just your post...
