I'm offered a B cam for next to nothing, i've heard people run these cams advanced, retarded and staright up... Anybody have any real world experience with the B cam besides staright up? Is it even worth throwing the b cam in. The motor is already out and im swapping the pan and timing cover for a carbed application. Rest of the engine is; stock GT40, heads, 1.7 rockers, rpm intake, full length headers backed by a t5.
If i do run the cam i was thinking of advancing it a couple degrees to move the power band down since the heads run out of steam up top.

Just looking for a nice driver. The longblock i'm using is from a 95 cobra. Another option is using the stock cam, but since i have it apart it's probably the best time to throw something in there.

My TFS headed carbed capri ran like a raped ape with the b cam and 1.7 rockers, retarded 2 degrees victor jr intake, stock bottom and T-5
I retarded it because I had 4.10s and plans for nitrous.
It went 12.00 at 80 mph the first time out on the nitrous. Killed a piston because my damn used nitrous solenoid hung open.
Back at the track, fresh 306 EXACT same combo went 10.80 on the nitrous 150shot.
Didnt get another run because that was the night the Mopars rear axle broke and took out the christmas tree. I only got one run at Sac.
That was with a 1.52 60 foot leaving on the nitrous.
28 inch tall slick.
So I guess the question is what gears and ultimate plans?
It would have probably been kind of a dog down low if I didnt have 4.10s.
On motor I would shift at 6400 and on the bottle I would shift at 6100.
I never ran it without the nitrous, didnt really see the point.
So my real world experience is with retarding it two degrees and I liked it.

It's going to be a nice driver, 3.55 or 3.73's. Won't see the track much. I don't plan on going pushing past 52-5500. Car will weigh around 3k
From what i hear it has 5 degrees advanced from the factory, is that correct?

correct most alphabet cams do.
to be honest, for your cylinder head combination, I would run it straight up with 1.7s on the exhaust (carbed) tho I have no PERSONAL experience with GT40s and this cam with a carb.

With a long runner efi I would say for sure to retard it 4 degrees. The long runner intakes seem to prefer the later closing events.

what are your thoughts on a carbed motor w/rpm intake. Would a carb spacer make a difference if it gets retarded with runner volume and velocity.

I have run that cam in nearly every single application under the sun. For your combination (carbed) and the gear range you have chosen I suggest running it 2* advanced with 1.7's. NA 302's like full intake lift at 105*. This assumes 15/8 headers and a 650 street demon carb. (my choices).

so what about with the efi application, would u say to run it str8 up or degree it 2-4*?(gt40 heads/u/l intake!

Well true straight up would be to degree it with all the advance taken out. You are talking about running it dot to dot. Before you go any further do you plan on degreeing cam?
