I failed smog today on my mustang gt. everything passed except:PO455- evaporative emission control system leak detected.

anyone have any easy solutions or causes to look at before going to the mechanic? Thanks

it's a 2000 GT. I had a full tune up done a month ago, thats the most recent thing done lately.

those leaks are really hard to find without a smoke machine. all you can really do is check the lines going from the tank and look for something really obvious.

Was the fuel pump or sending unit serviced/changed at all? If so the seals may have not been changed. Or they may be bad if neither have ever been worked on. [patriot]

try the cheapest thing it could be...the gas cap

^^^gas cap is tested separately if it was the cap they would of told you. Most likely have a bad seal. Drop the tank and check the seals and lock rings.
