Failed smog due to the functional test. I reset my card cause I had a code P0161 is this code my rear O2 sensors or something else.

This p-code is pointing to a fault in the Oxygen Sensor on Bank2 Sensor2. Replacing this sensor should solve your problem. This sensor is located in the exhaust pipe, on the driver's side, behind the catalytic converter. There is a special tool - Oxygen Sensor Socket - that will make the replacement much easier. You can usualy rent or buy this tool from a local parts store. After making the replacement, I would advise putting some miles on the car. Drive it around 50miles or so before going back for your retest.

rear o2 sensor is throwing a fault, either you have no cats, they have gone bad, or the o2 sensor is missing or has gone bad.

if you don't have cats you can get rid of the code with a tune, or by installing MIL-eliminators inline with the rear o2's.

heres what i did. I had a off road x pipe and i put my stock h pipe with all cats back on. After putting my stock pipe back on yesterday i went out to the store and my check engine light came on. when I got home I plugged in my OBD scanner and came up with that code, erase the code and thought I was good. this morning I went to get my car smogged and everything passed visual, smogg but failed cause the computer showed the engine light had been on recently and the computer hadnt run thru all the test according to the tech. when I left the place my check engine light came back on and its the same code. Do you think driving it around 50 plus miles with the stock pipe and check engine light on it will go away or are my rear o2 sensors done.

the ecu hasnt gone through all it tests yet. you just need to drive around a bit, some freeway, street and let the ecu do it thing.

check to make sure the rear o2's are plugged in, and that the wires haven't melted on anything.

Here's another question. I looked online and noticed that the bosh part number for the upsream and down stream o2 sensors. I have a extra upstream sensor could i used that for the back driver side o2 to see if that's the problem.

Because you erased the code, the computer needs to reset the monitors. OBD2 systems do tests on light acceleration, heavy acceleration, deceleration, etc. You should drive your car around for a day or two, drive on the streets and probably around 30 miles on the freeway at a constant speed of 70 or so. Make sure the light does not come back on. And if it does come on, do not erase the code.

no, they are totally different.

So I replaced the o2 sensor. Should i reset the computer so the engine light goes away or just drive it and will it go away it self.
