So lately I've been noticing oil pressure issues in my 87 fox body. Upon start up and the first 5-15 min of driving the oil pressure is above normal quit a bit but wen I get on the freeway and hit 5th gear it drops below normal to the next line even so thinkn it was a loss in viscosity in my oil I changed my oil today but I still have the same problem and in 5th gear the pressure get so low that I can hear my lifters rattle a bit...any suggestions on what to do next or what my problem could be?

CHANGE THE oil presure sensor, cheap lil thing and hope for the best, and make sure your oil level is right.

If your here a knocking sound when in fifth and in driving mode, changeing the sensor will be a good thing to change when you replace your OIL PUMP !!! I have an 88 when at start, it had oil pressure mid mark, then when the idle came down i replaced the sensor, but it didnt change the reading, so i pulled the motor and changed the oil pump and im running mid mark and above when driving now. but the sensor being replaced will not help the knock . knock means I NEED OIL !!

Is there anyway to test the pump b4 I pull it? Could it also be that the valves need adjusment

Non adjusting valves, usually low oil pressure and ticking, sounds like a pump issue, not enough oil upstairs will usually make noise. as for testing if the pump is working right, ya you cant, at least i dont think you can. you can raise the motor up as far as you can get it, and drop the pan, but its an ass with the motor still in the car.

if you're getting knocking it's time for a rebuild

OR you can take a 1/4" drive 1/4" socket on about a 6 inch extension (tape it on so it cant fall in the engine) and put that in the drill and spin it with a mechanical gauge hooked up so you get an accurate reading
