a diff cam...lol..kidding..i dont see going from 1.6's to 1.7s could have a bad effect?...unless you decide to run stock gt40 valve springs then yea keep the 1.6's...spend the money for the valve springs,,im running trickflow upgraded springs for gt40 heads..

sell the cam get a b303 install it 4degrees retarded with 1.6 that with the gt40s will walk on that e303 with the same heads [patriot]

If You hav'nt picked up the E cam then pick a different cam. If You already have it then use it, not bashing anyone with this cam I ran it back in the day Myself [Embarrassed] .

+4*, As installed with degree wheel (ICL) 106 icl v. 110 (straight up) and 1.7's on the exhaust, 1.6's on the intake.

what the different 0* to 4* 4degrees retarded....

0* would mean installing it straight up (110 cl). In my post I suggested installing at 106 cl (4* advanced). I would never install an Ecam retarded, but in short, retarding delays the valve events which increase top end horsepower and extend the rev range as well as smoothing out the torque curve. Advancing, on the other hand, increases cylinder pressure and gives more bottom end and mid range power, has a more peaky torque curve and falls off earlier in the rev range. Advancing and running 1.7's - as they pertain to the Ecam - brings the exhaust event in sooner (44*bbdc as opposed to 40*bbdc) and increases the ramp rate of the exhaust valve which is beneficial on GT40 heads (most sbf heads included) as they suffer poor exhaust flow charicteristics. As always, check PTV clearance.

Degreeing the cam changes the power band of the motor, either moving it up or down the RPM range. What copcar said is a pretty good explaination.
