Wassup Cafords, got a problem I just installed a edelbrock upper n lower intake, 70mm tb, n 24lb injectors with the maf. After a day or two I noticed the temp guage reaching 270 but it wouldn't hit red, just be on N on normal and when I drive temp goes a bit down but at dead stop goes back under the red, wondering if it can be my water pump? And yes I have changed the thermostat... Can someone help a fellow member? Lol

if its the 91 mustang in your profile. check and see if your fan clutch needs replacing (how easy does it turn by hand)

It doesn't leak at all, I turned the fan clutch by hand doesn't look like there's anything wrong felt the same as before

Ya see if when it gets hot if the top hose is cold and the bottom is hot. If so it could be in backwards, or just not flowing.

a backwards thermostat would cause the temps to go up and down in stop and go traffic? how?

if the thermostat is not opening, shouldn't the car's temp go one way (up)

i have the same issue with my 93 thunderbird 5.0 on the freeway it stays cool but in stop and go traffic street driving or if i leave the car in park idling the temp gauge goes up.I have no leaks,new water pump,thermostat in correctly,radiator fairly new,new hoses wonder what it could be?

when your car is moving air is being forced through your radiator, so its not totaly relying on your fan for cooling.
maybe your fan clutch is worn out and is NOT drawing air while the car is at a stop/idling.

u need to fit a ice cooler in your trunk , to pre cool your fuel, and the cooler can also act as a ice chest!javascript:void(0)

I see this alot and have fixed this problem on my own cars and its always a fan issue. When temp drops while driving 9 times out of 10 its a fan issue. Now a days I tend to spend alot more money on the cooling system.

how do you check to see if the fan clutch is working properly?Also what other things can you do to keep the car cool would dual fans work better?

Did you properly burb the system? This is a common cause for this issue.

Has the radiator cap been replaced? If not may not be holding at 15psi

If the thermostat is on backwards and is not opening your will overheat.

When you drain your radiator and refill it there may be air pockets in the system which could cause you to over heat. To get rid of them try this:

I've used a product called wetter water and have had good results with it. It will drop the temp about 15 degrees. It's not a major fix but it's better than nothing at all.
