so i have this 88 mustang 5.0 coupe, i recently bought this car a month ago. havent really drove it much due to reg fees. but anyways so i been testing it out and droved it down da street and back a couple times or at least until it hits a temp of 170-180. so after im done i drive back to my driveway n turn it off, then i try turning it back on and it doesnt want to start no more just CRANKS AND CRANKS. So i forget about it for a couple hours then LATER AT NITE I GO OUT TRY TURNING IT BACK ON N IT WORKS! so i guess it needs to cool down before turning back on?????? it doesnt turn off while driving only when turned off n try to turn back on.....
I changed out the following: IGNITION MODULE, CAP AND ROTOR TO A MSD CAP/ROTOR, AND DA COIL TO MSD BLASTER COIL. so i was confident that da IGNITION MODULE was really my problem i just changed out da rest for extra better performance.
ok so i tested it back out let da cAr warm up to a temp of 180 n ran it a couple times WITOUT TURNING DA CAR OFF. So i get back home turn da car off and try turning it back on and SAME SHIT! now i guess my only option would be either da selenoid or the pick up ignition module inside the distributor.????? can anyone plz help or giv back feedback on what it is or might be. anyone with similar problem? LMK!!!

Its not the solenoid cuz if it was it wouldn't crank over it will jus click..check ur grounds on the starter and battery first

Grounds, ignition switch in the column, module in the distrubutor...
And what is the fuel pressure like?

When u say module in the distributor do u mean inside da cap n rotor or outside da one attached to da distributor.?
Fuel pressure is good ived chekd it.something electrical jus don't know where to start now.

module... inside the distributor
where the TFI module plugs in. I usually just replace the distributor in thst case...cause you'll have to press off parts off the dizzy in order to replace it. Realigning the cam gear is impossible and hard to drill for new pin.
I try replacing the ignition switch first or at least take a good look at it. I had a 88 coupe and the ignition switch was loose and burnt looking

There are two possible reasons your car won't start.. Either you are not getting fuel or you are not getting spark.. Before you change out anymore parts you should check both and see which one it is

Thanks, thanks and thanks for all da feedback. I appreciate it. I'm pretty sure is some kind of ground problem. I haven't tried it but I'm guessing if I push start it, it will turn on. One of my friends has similar problem and told me to try it. Altho its been raining I can't rite now. Have to wait till thursday ;(

You said it will still crank when it wont start so push starting wont fix your problem. Next time it does it, try unplugging your coolant temp sensor for the fuel injection and then see if it starts. If it does, go get a new sensor.

Yea TFI...I had a similar problem..I would start it then once it was warm it wouldn't start ..I changed the tfi and it worked...my second guess would be a loose ignition (white)under your column its held by 2 screws ...check that its not loose

Damn I wish I had some kinda free diagnostic test to figure this shit out. but yea 2tone I changed da tfi module new, da plug wires, cap/rotor, coil...and its all msd. Same thing I will check for that thing u say on da column.
