This is going to be done on my 93 foxbody.

I have fel pro 9333-pt1 gaskets, arp head studs and am going to get the heads milled to make sure they are flat.

Any tips as this will be my first time doing the head gaskets.

read your manaul on doing is a clean everthing realy good an lay rags down on the lifter valley

Take your time, and do it right. Me and my buddy spent a day trying to get around stuff like taking the power steering pulley off, and basically wasted a day of work. Renting the puller and getting the right torx bit made the job extremely simple. Lesson of the day is to not try to avoid doing something just because it may be "easier" it doesn't usually turn out to actually be easier.

why did you have to remove the ps pulley?..lol

I think its an SN95 thing.. not positive tho

These are just a few, but should cover the basics...

Start at the bottom and work your way up. Remove or loosen the H pipe, disconnect at the headers, drain the oil (leaving the plug out and the drain pan there), and then work up top. Nothing like doing all the work up top and then laying on your back in a puddle of coolant/oil mix trying to disconnect parts.

Pull the block drain plugs. They are the small 3/8" plugs in the lower part of the block. This will keep the coolant spill to a minimum. Drain your radiator as well.

Use a residue-free cleaner to clean the head and deck surface.

Use NEW head locating bushings.

Unbolt the passenger side motor mount and raise the passenger side of the motor to make the install easier with the studs in place.

Make sure you seal the lower studs, not the upper ones. It is a coolant passage in the lower. You can use Lock-tite for the uppers if you want them to stay put.

Lots of Moly lube on the studs after you have the heads on. Don't lube the studs prior, as you will chance contaminating the head surface. Coat the washers as well, as this is the contact surface.

Torque the uppers to 75, the lowers to 70. Seat them with 35-40 first.

After it's all back together, think about who you're going to re-tune it with...because I doubt it was right the first go-around.

Are you doing this up in the Sac area or down at your parents place? If your close I can swing by and help you out if you get stuck on anything.

And most importantly, make sure you place the head gasket on the deck so that the water jacket ports are OPEN in the rear and covered in the front.

what torque specs would you recommend for
-Felpro 1006 gaskets
-7/16" ARP studs
-OEM 5.0 roller block
-gt40 Iron heads oem drilled for 1/2" (im using arp step washers to use on stock block).
- Heads machined for recieving grooves.


do you install the head studs hand tight(the stud itself) or does it need to be torque? I'm guessing no? Im Planning to run a cheap old p.o.s. turbonetic T4 60mm turbo in case your wondering.

Hand tighten them, or use Loc-tite if you don't plan on removing them. Coat them with moly-lube and torque them all to 65, then the uppers torqued to 70.

I wish it was Long Beach...it's Kansas, end of next month. [Frown]
