the current pan is a 7qt canton. Which way would be easier; pull the motor or drop the k-member? (with the motor attached to the hoist of course) Has anyone ever done it by dropping the k-member? Thanks.

pull the motor much easier then dropping the k member then you gotta worry about alignment again

Pull the k member...and leave the struts, spindles, and A arms in place. No need for a re-alignment.

Just carefully mark the position of the K member or, drill two small (1/8") positioning holes where it won't hurt anything and use the drill bit or a pop rivet to check alignment on re-installation.

yeah, thats my biggest concern getting it back in the same position. Will I need to re-torque the bolts after a certain amount of road time? due to vibration, bumps, etc. since they are no longer factory torqued.

were not planning on taking it completely out, just lowering it enough to get the pan out, as minimal as possible for that reason (but plans dont always go as planned lol)

If it's a Canton pan, it much be removed...there is no "lowering it a lil bit" to get it out.
As stated, make 2 alignment marks and go at it. If you're really worried about it, clean/degrease the area around the cradle and outline it with a paintpen. Can't screw anything up like that.

I see, so you do have to mark it no matter what then? I thought you were saying to just leave the other parts connected and remove k member then bolt back and it will automatically align itself.

Yes, mark it...leave everything else...and it WILL line up, if you follow these steps. There is no adjustment on the control arms.
Mark the K member, remove the sway bar links, remove the lower control arm mounting bolts (4 each), remove the springs, remove the steering coupler, remove the 2 retaining bolts for the PS rack, remove the 8 K member mounting bolts (4 large, 4 small)...remove pan.

finish doing it both ways this month its easiest to drop the k member and do it if you got a lift. takes a day. If you dont have a lift i would pull the motor it probably would take a day aswell with help i did it in two days myself.
