I'm slowly putting together a budget build 306. I plan on using a stock block bored out, after market rods, pistons,stock crank. Gt40 intake w/ported lower and gt40 iron heads ported. 70mm TB. 80mm MAF. BBK cai. 24lbs injectors. Windage tray. And of course all the nuts and bolts. Keep in mind this is a very budget build. I'd like to get a tune from AED when all said and done. What do you think I should do diffrent than the obvious aluminum head, etc,etc? If anything. I want to keep it smog legal, N/A,and reliable. I don't do a whole lot of drag racing. I like the autoX. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks [patriot]

Stock cam, 1.7 roller rockers, good valve job on the heads.

Follow JohnB's advice, and spend your money on suspension, brakes, and good sticky tires.

ditch the aftermarket rods and stick with the stock ones. then use that money towards some better heads. stock rods should be plenty strong for what your doing

* Adjustable FPR
* upgraded fuel pump
* roller rockers
* e-cam
* shorty headers (and full 2 1/2" exhaust)
* Ignition (upgraded coil, wires, and MSD/Crane box)

If your goal is to stay NA or run NOS then I would consider bumping up the compression a bit.

I have the adjustable FPR, 190 fuel pump, full exhaust, coil and wires. I spoke with my uncle in Mo. and he has some Crane 1.6 RR's and the valve springs off of his AFR 185's that he's going to send me. That should give me more options in the cam dept. Hunting for the heads. Has anyone ran the Pro Comp heads? Are those things even smog legal? Thanks for all the input. I'll keep everyone posted on the build. Hopefully with some pics. [patriot]
