Post up the reading numbers. Depending on what you failed on will help determine what needs to be replaced.

The paper you got from the smog place that told you the car failed has a bunch of reading numbers and test results on it. Those numbers and test results need to be posted up so we can tell you what to replace. Without telling us what exactly the car failed at, we can't help you.

From the numbers, your EGR is working...but the motor and/or cats are worn out. High HC and CO numbers indicate blowby and a incomplete combustion cycle. When was the last time you changed the oil? O2's?
Most likely, change the oil and swap in a known-good stock cat pipe...you'll pass.

I would guess bad cats too, but without knowing the engine combo you've got on the car, it's just a guess. If you don't want to plunk down big $$$ for a new mid-pipe, there's a place here in Hayward that will rebuild the cats with new catalyst material for $100 a pop. I'm pretty sure they can test your old cats to verify they're bad. I'll check to see if I can find the name of the shop.
