First whats the best valve springs to use with a trick flow stage 1 cam. Do i need the hole kit or just the springs. How hard is it to do it your self. Thanks DEANSTA510. [patriot]

You need the entire kit. More than likely you don't have extra shims laying around and I'd never trust locks with tons of miles on them. As for installing them, unless you have the knowhow and tools to tear them down, I wouldn't mess with them.

Why is it that hard to do it your self.If I buy the right spring compressor tool should be easy i hope.

If it's so easy, why are you here asking questions? [Big Grin]

If you have the tools, and I'm not talking that flimsy spring compressor sold at Kragen/Autozone/KMart...you should be fine, barring you remember how it comes apart/goes together and you follow the directions provided.

....and I hope you're talking about doing them OFF the car. On the car is a totally different situation.

Easier said than done. Trust me and JohnB that it is crucial that valve springs be installed correctly. i'd have a machine shop or someone knowledgeable do it or you can seriously damage your engine if incorrectly installed

Ive done it a few times and have some pics of it in my photo album but I must tell you that a machine shop wont charge much at all to install them for you if you bring the right, NEW parts down.

It's not just being able to get the springs off and back on, its setting the correct spring height with shims. You need the correct tool to measure how many shims you need. If you don't set them up right the spring rate will be off, you can have the perfect spring and either have coil bind or valve float. Buy the kit and take it to a machine shop or someone that really knows what they are doing.

The tfs-2500100 kit comes with the measuring tool and instructions. Other forums members say the kit is not that hard to install :eek
